Bolivar has its own economy, with Southwest Baptist University and Citizens Memorial Hospital among the major employers, so it’s more than a bedroom community. Downtown has a classic courthouse square, and the town’s namesake is honored with a statue of Simón Bolívar that President Truman helped dedicate in 1948.

For recreation, the Frisco Highline Trail runs south toward Springfield, and Pomme de Terre and Stockton lakes are within an easy drive for fishing and boating weekends.
